After five long months my Mail art reached Chile to be part of "Arte Postal : Mensajes Positivos". The Curator of the show told me she got them in an envelope that came from Brazil. The post system is a strange and mysterious thing. I was one of the few artist of Trinidad and Tobago to be part of it. Amongst them also was Raquel Vasquez and Alicia Milne.

My positive message: "Family, descendence. The mark (print) they leave in me. The mark (print) I leave in them"

These are a few snippets ( low resolution images) of the drawings I have been working in the past few months. is interesting how the concept behind each drawing drifts or becomse a dual narrative. is difficult for my artwork not to be influenced by what happens on my daily life. some of the narratives that affect my drawing might be related to the work, but some of them might have no relation at all.

Postcard Art: Self-portrait 2012, is a glance of what you reflect, how do do you want to be seen, remembered,the traits that define you from a personal point of view.

Postcard (minimum 2 postcards per person). Postcards should be approximately 13 x 18 cms (app. 5 x 7) Send without envelope, with stamp.
There is no required technique. However postcards should be durable enough to travel by mail, and shouldn´t be too heavy or delicate.
On the back of the postcard, please include your full name, age, country, address, and email address.
Include a brief description or phrase of your theme or message.

I am emotionally fragmented. I am Fragmented, inside and outside. All the life's that I have lived with this one body. I keep picking up, collecting memoirs and memories. Dislocated, transformed, in process, processed, dieing, resurrecting, folded, unfolded, hidden, changing, searching, digging, confused, unsettled, in a chaos with no sense I find sense or so I believe. I keep living.

Estoy emocionalmente fragmentado. estoy Fragmentado, por dentro y por fuera. Todas las vidas que he vivido con este cuerpo. Yo sigo recogiendo, coleccionando memorias y recuerdos. Dislocado, transformado, en proceso, procesado, muriendo, resucitando, doblado, desdoblado, escondido, cambiando, buscando, escavando, confundido, trastornado, en un caos sin sentido, encuentro el sentido o eso creo. Sometimes I think I know who I am, but it happens that I don't know myself anymore. In my mind I am someone I am no longer in real life. Thoughts and actions have become a contradiction. When did I lose track of the person I was /am?.

The older I get the blurrier the lines of who I am ...

Llevo mas de siete años aquí en la isla de Trinidad, y desde el momento que salí de mi país natal me he sentido perdido. He estado en una continua búsqueda de ese lugar que puedo llamar casa, que al regresar a mi país no conseguí. A consecuencia de esto por los últimos 7 años he juzgado arduamente a este país o cualquier situación en la cual no me sienta cómodo, la cual son demasiadas o tal vez todas.
Ser extranjero es difícil, ser extranjero es no olvidar tus raíces, ser extranjero para mi es vivir con la mente en el pasado con los pies en el presente.

I have more than 7 years living in the island of Trinidad, and since I left my birth country I have felt lost. I have been in a continuous search of that place that I can call home, which I did not find when I went back to my country. As a consequence, for the last 7 years I have judged in a arduous manner the country or any situation in which I do not feel comfortable, which are many or maybe all.
To be a foreigner is difficult, to be a foreigner is not to forget your roots, to be a foreigner for me is to live with your mind in the past with your feet in the present.

The Cuckoo’s Asylum is psychiatric hospital where they're introducing music therapy to heal their patients. The reaction is narrated by one the patient's perspective.

The idea of making it in Spanish was a kind of revenge (in a nice way speaking). Since we can remember we've been reading subtitles . Is interesting to see the reaction when an audience is not accustomed to this.

While browsing through the newspaper I realize the all the first pages in the Trinidad Guardian or Express are filled up with all the most depressing images. Murders, politics, death toll etc . so every we morning buy the ''the Daily Book of tragedies''.We like tragedy, we like observing other persons pain.

Nothing is really known until we experience it ourselves.... What I feel you might forget it by tomorrow, but i will feel it for the rest of my life or while it lasts..

''the best of existence is its brevity, which so often we complain''

good- bad, happy- sad, Scars- tragedy, Horizontal- death, Vertical- alive, in- good, out-bad, falling- out of balance- chaos...

Scars often reminds me of something that I'm going to live with the rest of my life, it can be a Tragedy or something very simple that is in our subconscious. Tragedies are always related to pain, and the visual image we get from pain is a person suffering.

I started to observe images of dead people, people in pain, suffering, crying... etc.

Humans spend a lot of hours during the day in a vertical position. when the body is in an horizontal position is when the body is in rest. If we start observing other moments that the body spends time in a horizontal position for an extended period is when we are dead or sick...
I came across a few stories but the most interesting one was THE FACTS IN THE CASE OF M. VALDEMAR by Edgar Allan Poe, which talks about a man who is lying in bed and we are not sure if he is sleeping or dead. While reading this story I kept in my mind the idea of horizontal lines and how it can be related to death.

Other moment when the human body is not vertical is when we are falling, the body is completely out of balance...

From Scars... Pt.1

I think most of us have been in a situation that has left a trace , a mark, but not in our skin or body but in our soul. A mark is like a stain, a persistent memory that comes up in the most unexpected moment. Maybe a mark that might fade, or a mark that we would carry and haunt us for the rest of our lives.

While doing my research I came across Arthur Schopenhauer and his studies in Pessimism. reading part of this book made me start studying pain. I fell in to a world of polarities, that without happiness we cant have sadness. but us human we prefer to live in pain more than maintain ourselves in certain type of stability. we come out of some sort of problem just to look for other thing to grieve about.
Schopenhauer explains that happiness is an illusion hence the only thing that really exist is the absence of pain. A very good example between joy and suffering ..."compare the feelings of an animal engaged in eating another with those of the animal being eaten".

To want is essentially to suffer, like to live is to want, so every life is by essence pain. life is fighting for existence, with the certainty of being defeated. Life is a relentless hunt, where people, sometimes are hunters and sometimes hunted.

We feel the pain, but not the absence of pain, we fell the fear but not security, we feel the sickness but not health, We feel the desire and longing, as we feel hunger and thirst, but when they are fulfilled, it's all over, like once we swallow the bite it ceases to exist for our senses.
we don't realize of the happy days in our lives until they are substituted by pain..
